The music website our vinyl weighed in on last year's fest.

As beautiful Rothbury Michigan hosted The Electric Forest Music Festival over the forth of July weekend, the outside world can only begin to wonder what magic was created. With an astounding 30,000 plus attendees, the festival's love was percolating through the campgrounds to the stages, to the forest and back! The festival kicked off at 5:30 sharp and filled fans with an action-packed. Over 90 plus acts were featured on five strategically positioned stages in order to promote an exciting new atmosphere during all sets of music. After attendees rolled in on Thursday and set up shop, it was time for one of the most anticipated events of the summer to begin. (our vinyl)

Aside from the main stages, The Electric Forest Festival has many attractions suited for everyone. Attendees can take a walk in The Sherwood Forest , spend the day at Gold Rush Water Park (complete with free shuttle and towel), play a round at Thoroughbred Golf Club, or play Glow-In-The-Dark Disc Gold, along with many others.

    The Sherwood Forest at night

The Sherwood Forest, located in the heart of the festival grounds, is the pulse of Electric Forest. By day, the Sherwood Forest is a place to relax in one of the many hammocks that swing between the trees, explore the art installations sprinkled throughout the woods and meander down paths to discover plenty of surprises. At night, the Sherwood Forest comes alive! Witness the extravagant light display, stumble into surprise performances and parties in the depths of the woods, and gather with friends to enjoy the party. Make sure to check out the Forest Stage with live music and performances day and night, as well as unannounced surprise sets!

As the entrance gates into the festival grounds opened it was apparent that festivalgoers maintained a one-track-mind as they headed towards The Sherwood Forest. The priceless look on faces and harmonious laughter filled the forest as people explored the marvelous creations and art displays. After making way through an abundance of hammocks, fans were graced with the Reincarnation Garden. This sacred space was created by a team of four with astonishing visions, and lead by a curator from the west coast who goes by the name of Nature. The garden featured a thirty foot enclosed angel's nest built out of fallen branches and vines, an eight foot heart composed of flowers, intricate metal structures (such as an eight foot tall Buda on a lotus flower), and a plethora of mandala grids designed to activate the mind and spirit. To polish off the relaxing vibe of the forest, a gong message circle was installed to promote deeply rooted meditation. The forest set the tone for the entire weekend as it successfully molded music and art into one main focus of The Electric Forest Festival. (our vinyl)

Glow-in-The-Dark Disc Golf at The Electric Forest Festival

The Solar Glow Disc Experience, will be hosting a 9-hole disc golf course at Electric Forest throughout the weekend. While perfectly enjoyable by day, the course's fairways will illuminate at night with an array of solar powered, multi-colored lights, and glow discs soaring through the trees. As golfers approach each hole, a black light shines on the tee sign, doubling as a charging station for discs!

Four-day ticket passes for the festival went on sale Monday, January 30th, 2012. The two lowest ticket price levels have already sold out.  Available four-day passes now range from $229 to $242, depending on how early tickets are purchased.

The festival, which drew nearly 34,000 people to the tiny western Michigan hamlet of Rothbury in 2009, will run from June 28 to July 1 at Double JJ Ranch. (02/03/12)
