JULIAN LAGE New Music [ Julian Lage on TKA ] | [ Julian Lage One Sheet ] EmArcy Album Info: SOUNDING POINT For Julian's debut album on EmArcy, he has created music that incorporates multiple influences. The Grammy-winning production team includes renowned Classical producer, Steve Epstein and engineer, Richard King. Known for their work on a myriad of pure Classical albums, they have also created such "crossover" masterpieces as the award-winning Yo Yo Ma, Edgar Meyer collaboration, Appalachian Journey, Corea.Concerto by Chick Corea and Billy Joel's MUSIC For Solo Piano. The musicians on the album are: Tupac Mantilla (drums, percussion), Aristides Rivas (cello) Ben Roseth (sax), and Jorge Roeder (bass). Long time collaborator Taylor Eigsti and special guests Béla Fleck and Chris Thile, mandolinist of Nickel Creek and the Punch Brothers are also featured. Cellist Aristides Rivas is from Venezuela. Rivas' education includes a Bachelor in Music from Baylor University in Texas, and a Master in Music from the New England Conservatory of Music. He performs and gives master classes in Venezuela and is on the faculty at the International Music Festival "Presjovem" in Spain. Ben Roseth (alto/soprano saxophone) was born and raised in Seattle, Washington. He pursued parallel degrees in Jazz Performance, at the New England Conservatory, and International Relations, at Tufts University. He has a unique concept of fusion between jazz and folk music from around the world. Bassist Jorge Roeder was born in Lima, Peru. Jorge plays with pianist Kenny Werner as part of his current trio. Jorge is also a member of The Dan Tepfer Trio; The Sofia Koutsovitis Group, a South American Jazz/Folk band; The Jarrett Cherner Trio,; Sol y Canto, a Boston-based Central and South American Music group; and Avantrio, dedicated to performing Peruvian music. Colombian drummer and percussionist Tupac Mantilla graduated with Honors from the New England Conservatory. He also studied at The Sangeet Indian Music School at Harvard University. Mantilla has given several rhythm, world-percussion, body-percussion, Stomp based and rhythmic skills clinics and workshops worldwide. His work includes concerts, tours, productions and recordings with artists such as Danilo Perez, Bob Moses, Deepak Ram, Hankus Netsky, Michael Cain, TEKEYE, Juan Sebastian Monsalve, and 1280 Almas among many others. On May 11th and 12th, Julian Lage, Béla Fleck Fleck, and Chris Thile recorded three songs for the album at Legacy Studios in New York. On June 15th, 16th and 17th Julian, Aristides Rivas, Ben Roseth, Jorge Roeder, Tupac Mantilla, and Taylor Eigsti recorded the rest of the album at Legacy Studios in New York. The album was mixed and mastered at Seven Seas studios. SOUNDING POINT: the point at which sound is produced from bowing a stringed instrument. In this context, energy around the moment when something exciting is going to happen a moment at which a process becomes an embodied experience.
